How to Report a Deepfake on Every Major Platform

Reviewed against primary sources Updated 2026-06-06 · The Remove My Deepfake Project

Exact reporting routes for deepfakes on Instagram, Facebook, X, TikTok, YouTube and Reddit, plus what each platform’s policy says about non-consensual and synthetic media, and how to speed up removal.

To report a deepfake, use the in-app report option on the specific post (look for the “…” or share menu), choose the non-consensual intimate imagery or synthetic-media reason, and file a dedicated report through the platform’s help center as well. For intimate images, also register with StopNCII or Take It Down so partner platforms remove matching copies automatically.

Before you report

Save the evidence first: the URL, dated screenshots, and the posting account. See how to find and preserve copies. Do not message the person who posted it.

Platform-by-platform reporting routes

Every major platform bans non-consensual intimate imagery and most now address synthetic or manipulated media. Reporting in two ways, the quick in-app report plus a dedicated help-center form, tends to get the most reliable result.

PlatformHow to reportPolicy covers
Instagram / Facebook“…” menu on the post or profile → report as non-consensual / fake intimate image or impersonation. Also use StopNCII.Non-consensual intimate images; derogatory sexualised edits; impersonation
X (Twitter)Report the post for non-consensual nudity or synthetic & manipulated media, plus a dedicated report via the help center.Non-consensual nudity; misleading manipulated media
TikTokShare menu → report for NCII or synthetic media; submit a Help Center report. StopNCII partner.Non-consensual intimate imagery; synthetic media
YouTubeUse the privacy complaint process to request removal of content using your likeness without consent, plus report the video.Privacy; impersonation; manipulated content
RedditReport the post for involuntary pornography or impersonation; file at reddit.com/report.Involuntary pornography; impersonation

Reporting links and exact wording change over time. Always start from the platform’s official safety or help center, which we list on our sources page.

Why hashing makes platform reports more powerful

Reporting a single post only removes that post. A hashing tool removes matching copies across many platforms at once. Because Meta, TikTok, Reddit and others are StopNCII partners, registering an intimate image with StopNCII (adults) or Take It Down (minors) means partner platforms look for and remove copies you have not even found yet. Use both together.

If it is on an adult site or a messaging app

Adult platforms usually have a content-removal or non-consensual-content form, submit it, and lean on StopNCII to catch copies elsewhere. On messaging apps like Telegram or Discord, report the account or channel in-app; because these are harder to police, focus your energy on evidence preservation and hashing so copies are caught if they surface publicly.

Frequently asked questions

How do I report a deepfake on Instagram?
Use the “…” menu on the post, profile, or message and report it as a non-consensual or fake intimate image, or as impersonation. For intimate images, also register with StopNCII, which Meta scans against, so matching copies are removed across Facebook and Instagram.
How do I report a deepfake on TikTok?
Use the share menu on the video to report it for non-consensual intimate imagery or synthetic/manipulated media, then submit a report through TikTok’s Help Center for a more thorough review. TikTok is a StopNCII partner, so hashing helps too.
Does X (Twitter) remove deepfakes?
Yes. X prohibits non-consensual nudity and misleading synthetic and manipulated media. Report the specific post in-app and file a dedicated report through X’s help center for the fastest handling.
What happens after I report a deepfake?
The platform reviews the report against its policies and removes content that violates them. You may get a notification of the outcome. Reporting both directly and via a hashing tool (StopNCII or Take It Down) gives you the best chance of full removal.
How long do platforms take to remove a reported deepfake?
It varies by platform and case. In the US, the TAKE IT DOWN Act requires covered platforms to remove reported non-consensual intimate images within 48 hours. Citing it in your report can help.
